The Hill of Crosses is exactly that, but so much more. I’ve been in some of the most impressive churches, mosques, temples in the world, but I don’t think I’ve ever been as moved as walking through the thousands of crosses placed on a hill. For me, I think it’s the simplicity of it. It’s open to all, no one runs or manages it, and it’s truly what you want it to be/believe. Any given cross placed can be for a loved one, a prayer for the future, or a country. There were many crosses from countries for fallen soldiers, & I even saw one with a plaque from my city Dallas, Texas.
We ‘planned’ the trip to Trakai at bedtime in Vilnius the night before. We arrived and threw our stuff in a room, headed to town where a festival was going on, grabbed a beer because why not, and saw a castle so we walked towards it. That’s where old weather-worn sailors were offering sailing rides around the castle…
A weekend spent hiking is a good weekend… throw in camping in a tipi, your girlfriends, and Sedona scenery and it was a great weekend ❤️.
